Vertical Grinding Service
Nation Grinding, Inc. is ISO and Mil-Spec compliant, which allows us to offer and deliver precision vertical grinding service. We’ve been in the grinding & coating services since 1954 and servicing three of the largest spindle grinders in the United States.
What is a Vertical Grinding Service?
A vertical grinding service is a type of precision grinding service using a vertical grinder that can achieve highly accurate and tight tolerances. They are often used for tough materials or materials that must be ground on multiple sides. Vertical grinding is a very precise process that can produce much more accurate results than traditional grinding methods.
Nation Grinding, Inc. vertical grinding service offers part inside diameters that can be from .200 to 36 in. (5 to 914.4mm) and also part outside diameters of up to 48 in. (1219 mm)
We can also grind to very tight tolerances and hold angular tolerances within plus or minus .0002 of an inch (.005mm). Our surface finishes can be as low as 2 microinches (0.05 microns).
Advantages of Vertical Grinding
There are many advantages to using a vertical grinder, some of which include the following:
- Achieving extremely accurate and tight tolerances
- Being able to grind tough materials
- Grinding on multiple sides
- Reduced overall machining time
- Reduced labor costs
- Increased productivity
- Improved surface finish
- Greater dimensional accuracy
- Better roundness and cylindricity
Applications of Vertical Grinding
Vertical grinding is a type of grinding that uses a vertical spindle instead of the horizontal spindle found in most grinding machines. This vertical spindle can either be oriented vertically or horizontally. It is a process that finishes the workpiece by removing material from the top surface of the piece.
Vertical grinding can be used to perform a wide range of functions. It can make surfaces smooth and correct edges and faces to align.
In the manufacturing industry, vertical grinding is commonly used to finish dies, fixtures, and molds. Vertical grinding tools can also be used on rods, though circular rods are a process typically left for OD grinding tools.
For industrial use, the vertical grinding mill reduces the sizes of various materials such as cement, coals, phosphate rocks, limestone, marble, etc.
In addition, service wet grinding is a process in the processed surface in which it will be cooled and lubricated to protect it from corrosion.
